Abstract

This project examines the relationship between sentencing suggestions from prosecutors, probation officers, and public defenders and the sentencing outcome from the judge. This is important to help us understand how influential different employees of the court system are in the sentencing outcome and what factors go into the judges' thought process. For this project I interviewed a prosecutor, a probation officer, a public defender, and three judges from my hometown. By conducting interviews I was able to understand the different perspectives throughout the court process and how everyone plays a role in the sentencing outcome. This project will also have research on the past cases in the 2025 year. This still needs to be done and will provide numbers on how defendants were sentenced.
