Abstract
This paper analyzes the historic rise of the first political parties in the country of British Guyana, as well as the Chedi Jagan regime and its quarrels with Forbes Burnham and his opposition allies. This research attempts to highlight the incorporation of Communistic political ideas in the first political parties and how it was used to manipulate policy and foreign relations with other countries and gained the attention of major democratic countries. This work utilizes various academic journals and books that describe the foundations of Guyanese political parties and their relative ideologies. United States government documents and databases are utilized as primary resources to illustrate the attitudes of multiple presidencies on Guyanese politics. The moves used to counter the rise of Communism in Guyana by the United States and its operations are also detailed in various department letters and correspondences. This paper serves as a way to look deeper into the topic of British Guyana history and the men that shaped its domestic and foreign policies for decades in the 20th century.
