Abstract
For my capstone, my group and I are renovating CE Wharton Memorial Park in Kenon, Ohio with the goal of bringing more visitors into the city and increasing the sense of community. Cohesive signage enhances a city’s level of visual appeal. The National Parks Service has a signage plan which has helped to establish a sense of uniformity and make their parks recognizable across the country. After examining Kenton’s city codes, a similar signage plan was put together for signs associated with the CE Wharton Memorial Park renovation and future signs. The signage plan will include guidelines for different size signs, each with a different purpose. The guidelines will include design specifics as well as material and installation requirements based on research and in accordance with the city and state codes. Another aspect of signage design is placement. The signs specifically for CE Wharton Memorial Park will be strategically placed to connect the park to downtown Kenton, and this poster will outline the associated decision-making process. Ultimately, this deliverable will provide the city of Kenton with guidelines that will make cohesive signage attainable and allow them to benefit from the increased sense of community and connectivity offered by the additional visual appeal.
