Abstract

Problem: Pressure ulcers are a common problem for patients staying in a long term care facility. Preventative intervention should be used to reduce the risk of pressure ulcers. One intervention includes the use of pressure injury care bundles.

Aims: The purpose of this research project is to determine if there is decreased incidence of pressure ulcers in nursing home patients when pressure ulcer bundles are used compared to when they are not.

Methods: This quality improvement study is a quasi-experimental design. A pressure ulcer bundle will be implemented for patients who are at risk of developing pressure injuries. The number of pressure ulcers before and after implementation will be compared. Additionally, a Likert scale will be used to determine nurses’ perception of the pressure ulcer bundle.

Conclusion: Research has shown that the incidence of pressure ulcers are reduced and prevented by the use of pressure injury care bundles. Care bundles should be used to prevent pressure injuries in nursing home patients.
