Abstract
The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) holds an annual Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) competition. AMCP selects a newly approved drug and releases a dossier. The dossier contains information pertaining to the selected drug, but most importantly, clinical trial research. Students from each college of pharmacy across the country are invited to participate and submit a drug monograph, PowerPoint presentation, and answers to two given discussion questions. Extensive research is required for the monograph portion. Clinical and pharmacoeconomic evidence is required to evaluate the drug. Current treatment options and a disease background are also assessed to help decide if the given drug should be covered by the health plan or institution. Students must gather and analyze numerous articles and studies to determine if and where the drug should fall onto the formulary. This task requires both time and dedication; it is not easy to complete. The competition is very competitive; each school is only allowed one submission to the national level. This will serve as a “how-to” guide for students of Ohio Northern University, with the goal to encourage more students to participate in the P&T competition.
