Abstract
The need for healthcare providers in under served populations is greater than ever, especially due to recent social and economic events. But what conditions can prospective healthcare professionals expect to get into in this arena of healthcare? From June 9th, 2020 to August 7th, 2020, I participated in an internship at Blanchard Valley’s Caughman Health Center in Findlay, Ohio. This practice serves an under privileged and low-income demographic. By observing and recording day to day occurrences, I accrued significant insight that can be shared on these conditions. My experiences can serve as a glimpse into these conditions. In addition to this, rural communities also experience a deficit in healthcare, particularly in the geriatric demographic. Communication of resources available to these communities are often geared towards a younger audience, using technology as the medium. A relevant present-day example of this is information about COVID-19, and the availability of vaccines for this virus. By generating a more accessible form of communication for the geriatric demographic, I hope to spread light on this issue and make a positive impact on my community.
